We haven’t posted on here in a while, but we sure do talk about it a lot. We are assuming that the Russian comments we keep receiving on past posts are not just spammers, but people pleading for us to start writing again.
When the pandemic first kicked off, we had the time to catch up on posts from 2019 and early 2020. While we didn’t travel for April break in 2020, we were able to get some traveling in starting in the summer. Like most folks, we weren’t able to go home due to COVID (duh), and the amount of time it would have taken us to quarantine in both the US and Canada would have been ridiculous. We weren’t comfortable flying without the vaccine which hadn’t been invented yet. Mike couldn’t get into the US and I couldn’t get into Canada, so we canceled all of our summer flights, AirBnbs, and a trip to Scotland for June and came up with alternative plans to fill the 7 weeks of summer break.
We were able to travel in Europe with our Romanian residency permits, so we hit the road in our tiny 2006 Volkswagon Polo. We decided we could use the time here to see more of Romania and countries close by that we were allowed into. Most of our trips are spent outside anyway, so we stuck with some rules; no crowded hotels, all outdoor eating, no indoor events or museums, lots of time in nature, and masking up always With restrictions, it was complicated to cross borders, but more on that in the next post about our road trip through Croatia, Italy & Hungary. So to kick off the summer of putting lots of miles on our car, we headed to the coast of Romania to check out the Danube Delta for a few days in June, 2020. This gave us the chance to see if our car would be able to handle such a long trip. It did, for now.
To get there we drove about 5 hours, stopping off in Constanţa, a popular town on the Black Sea.
We stayed at the Green Village Resort, which is only accessible by boat, so after the car trip, we parked and took a fairly packed boat for an hour down the Danube Delta to the mouth of the River where the resort was located. Everyone was masked, and the wind made us feel better about this culture shock of being so close to so many strangers after so long.
The Danube Delta region is known to be a very popular destination for birders. As former birders in Africa ourselves, we fit right in. Pictured above, are 4 different flavors of birds.
This bird was racing home because he forgot his mask.
These swans were all in the same social pod.

Heron taking social distancing seriously.

16 more posts to go and then we will be all caught up!
Just the email I have been waiting for! Glad you are back to bloggin’!
