Long Weekend in Rome

In early January, I had a music educator’s workshop which was conveniently located in Rome.  My workshop was just 2 days and then Mike flew in to meet me and stay for the weekend.  The workshop was really excellent and the second visit to Rome was even better.  We had been to Rome back in February 2018 so we had a good idea of what we wanted to do (eat) and see.

My workshop was in the La Storta area about 30 minutes from downtown Rome at the British school so I stayed out there for the first 2 nights.   I stayed at the hotel Il Casali Del Pino which was in the beautiful countryside location pictured above.  The hotel was only a 30-minute walk from the school which was lovely in the morning, but mildly terrifying on the unlit country road at 10:00 pm after dinner.

When my workshop, was over I moved to an Airbnb downtown and met Mike after he flew in from Bucharest.  We had our first dinner at  Roma Sparita. Still amazing.

During our first visit to Rome, we stayed in an Airbnb near the Colosseum so we saw this view a lot.  Since we passed the Colosseum so many times on that first trip, we decided not to go inside.  But this time we did. Buy tickets online before you go or deal with this!

The Colosseum used to be covered in over 400 species of plants, some thought to be introduced by the species brought to Rome for entertainment. Not funny, but true?

Artichoke pie and carbonara for lunch at our favorite restaurant ever, Poldo e Gianna Osteria.  Still delicious!

Trevi Fountain, you only need to go in up to your knees to get a shot with no other tourists.

Crowds at the Spanish Steps

Villa Borghese Park

Charming Streets

Adorable ruins

Potato and rosemary pizza for breakfast

The last supper, amatriciana at La Fraschetta.

Rome=great.  Would go back.
