SPRING BREAK!! WOOO! For Spring break we spent a week in Amsterdam. April is a great time to be in Amsterdam and this week, in particular, we got to be around for the King’s Day Festivities as well as the tail end of tulip season.
This was our first breakfast in Amsterdam on King’s Day because we couldn’t find anything else open. It did end up being an interesting cultural experience because of the types of donuts on offer. After pouring over their surprisingly impressive display we settled on Stroop Waffle and Speculoos Cookie. Don’t tell anyone, but we made a point to go back and try peanut butter and jelly and Oma’s apple pie.
The streets and canals were packed with people celebrating the holiday. Some were all dressed in orange, the national color, all were drinking and a few helped keep the canal levels high.

Freshly made Stroop waffles at Albert Cuyp Market
Magical Dutch toasties at the market
A visit to the tulip fields in Keukenhof Gardens
This was the end of the season so a lot of the tulips were cut to be sold already, but it was still a good show.
Good luck finding where you parked your bike.
Fine dining at Febo automat. Bring change and get the meat croquettes and cheese toasties.
We took the train to visit Harleem, where Mike’s Dad was born and grew up. So many of the streets looked adorable and charming just that this. We ate dinner at Mike’s Dad’s house, which is now an Italian Restaurant.
Coffee break in Harleem, vanilla slice and assorted Dutch cookies. Barely any butter at all.
Windmill at the Zaanse Schans village, a lovely boat ride from downtown Amsterdam.

Logrolling not reccomended
