Winter Break Part 2: Fine, we’ll go to Bordeaux

For the second part of our winter break we drove from San Sebastian, Spain back into France and stopped in a few towns along the way. First was St. Jean de Luz, a little seaside town where we got some mussels and were disappointed. The food in San Sebastian is a hard act for all food everywhere to follow. The town was still very adorable though.

Next up we drove to Bayonne, France. My grandparents and Mom used to live in Bayonne, NJ so I wanted to compare. Almost exactly the same!
From Bayonne we drove to Bordeaux for the last few days of the break.  We stayed in an Airbnb right near the market Le Halles de Bacalan which was a great location for some easy and delicious meals.  This meal is called cheese and wine.
Caneles, a traditional pastry from Bordeaux
Another traditional pastry, dune blanches.  Choux pastry filled with cream. Delicious!
A visit to Chateau La Dominique Winery outside of Bordeaux.  Great lunch!

View from lunch at the winery. Red stones cover the rooftop to represent grapes.

A long walk to the other side of the river for a beer and a view of Bordeaux from Les Chantiers de la Garonne.
